Trekmates

Trekmates began creating outdoor accessories back in ’97. Based out of a garage in Nottingham, a father and son team started developing great value gloves and hats for outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. Today the brand offers a huge variety of essential accessories. They approached us with a focussed task; the old visual expression of the brand wasn’t working. Their products, often small and tucked into corners of busy outdoor shops, didn’t have a unified aesthetic. Trekmates needed a simple, unfussy, striking new brand to be immediately distinctive – even in crowded retail spaces.

Creative strategy:

Do the simple things really well. Evolve the brand aesthetic for digital and retail. Simplify, define and then provide guidance for Trekmate’s internal team to execute. Define a hierarchy of information for the brand and packaging, what does a customer need to be see at 10 metres away? How about 5 metres? How about up close?

Process:

Several aesthetic options were considered and openly discussed. Simplicity was key. The logo had to work tiny on product, and be unfussy enough to print on several different types of materials. A modern sage green was chosen as a unifying, easy to reproduce colour. Several style setter packaging designs were executed to provide enough of a guide for the full range.
